Nestled in the heart of Olney, Illinois, our cabin is more than just a getaway—it’s a place where history, nature, and heartfelt hospitality come together. Originally built in 1982 by Don and Arlene Stanley, the cabin was the realization of their lifelong dream to have a place they could truly call their own.
Don Stanley was a lifelong United States Navy veteran, having proudly served during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Hancock. The Hancock played a significant role in history, being one of the last ships to leave Pearl Harbor before the infamous attack on December 7, 1941. After years of service, Don returned home, ready to start a new chapter in life.
That chapter began when he met Arlene, a kind-hearted and devoted woman who shared his dreams of building a life filled with love and family. After just three weeks of dating, they decided it would be a good idea to get married and spend the rest of their lives together—a decision that proved to be the foundation of a remarkable story.
Through 75 years of marriage, Don and Arlene built a life of dedication, adventure, and unwavering commitment to one another. They celebrated their incredible 75th wedding anniversary before their passings, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a home that was always open to family and friends.
Arlene had always dreamed of being a homemaker, dedicated to caring for her family and home to the best of her ability. She took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming space, where fresh coffee and homemade snacks were always ready for visitors. Whether it was a neighbor stopping by for a chat or family gathering around the kitchen table, Arlene’s home was a place of comfort, kindness, and laughter.
Don and Arlene also shared a deep love for the outdoors, spending their days fishing, hunting, hiking, gardening, and exploring nature. Their cabin, surrounded by towering oak and hickory trees, became a sanctuary for both people and wildlife. Today, guests may spot the famed white squirrels of Olney, as well as deer, red foxes, great blue herons, cardinals, woodpeckers, and even barred owls. The quiet sounds of a nearby stream and the evening chorus of frogs and crickets create the perfect backdrop for a peaceful retreat.
After Don’s passing in 2016 and Arlene’s in 2023, their beloved cabin transitioned to Fox Creek Cabins LLC, whose mission is to preserve their legacy while enhancing its charm and comfort. In 2023 and 2024, thoughtful renovations were undertaken to honor the original spirit of the home, blending rustic charm with modern conveniences to provide an unforgettable guest experience.
Opening for guests on April 1, 2024, our cabin is ready to welcome those seeking a peaceful retreat, an outdoor adventure, or a place to reconnect with nature. Whether you’re here for a weekend getaway or an extended stay, we invite you to experience the beauty, warmth, and hospitality that Don and Arlene cherished for decades.
